Roofing FAQ

How will I know if I need a new roof or just a repair?

If your roof looks in good shape, it can probably be repaired. If your roof is past its life expectancy and is obviously on its last leg then
you probably need a completely new roof.
Shake or wood shingle roofs rule of thumb is that it will last 20 to 25 years.
Composition shingles are from 12 to 20 years.
Cap sheet roofs, hot mop, torch down or cold application are 8 to 12 years.
Rock roofs are 12 to 15 years.
These are all rule of thumb. I have seen Shake roofs go 30 + years and also some that were worn out at 12 years. I once saw a 5 year old wood shingle roof that needed to be replaced due to foot traffic.

What types of roofing materials can we cover over ?

In a normal situation, we can recover over composition shingles, wood shingles, cap sheet roofs, and some rock roofs. Generally, if the roof has a tile, shake or metal roof it must be removed then reroofed.

Can we put the roof on during the winter?

Absolutely! We work all year long. Obviously it is better to install the new roof when the weather is warm. But we work in the winter too. We take extra precautions to ensure that the house stays watertight during the roofing of your home. We always try to ensure that the roof is covered with felt, before the day is over. We have huge tarps on hand in case of a sudden storm burst. They will cover any area that is open to the weather. Sometimes roofs will start to leak, very badly during the winter, and you can’t wait for summer to have your roof installed. We are available at all times.

Do you keep the property clean?
What do you do with the old roofing debris?

Yes, we keep the surroundings clean. The job will be cleaned up on a daily basis. We tarp all bushes, lawns, and shrubbery as needed. We are very particular about our cleanliness. We take pride in our clean-up. We treat your home like it is ours. The roofing debris will be disposed of in a legal and proper fashion.
